Accessibility at CHSofNJ

The Children’s Home Society of New Jersey (CHSofNJ) is committed to offering a warm and nurturing environment for everyone to benefit from services. Our dedicated staff and volunteers are here to assist you with any needs you may have. Service animals are welcome at all CHSofNJ locations for people with disabilities. If the dog’s mere presence provides comfort, it is not a service animal under the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). But if the dog is trained to perform a task related to a person’s disability, it is a service animal under the ADA.

To ensure you have the best possible experience during your visit to CHSofNJ offices and events, including Trenton Education Dance Institute (TEDI) events, we kindly ask guests needing assistance to contact CHSofNJ at least two weeks in advance. You can reach the NJ Relay System TTY at (800) 852-7899 or 711; Sarah Stecker, ADA Coordinator, at sstecker@chsofnj.org or (609) 695-6274 x 180.

CHSofNJ’s main office in Trenton is available at (609) 695-6274.

* CHSofNJ Main Building is handicap accessible.  Large print, assistive listening devices, and American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation are all available by request. Please contact us at least two weeks in advance to make arrangements.

ADA Advisory Committee

CHSofNJ has established an ADA Advisory Committee, which places special emphasis on TEDI. This committee convenes twice a year during the school year to discuss and address initiatives aimed at enhancing programming and policies that promote inclusivity for individuals with disabilities throughout the agency. If you are interested in becoming a member of the committee please contact Sarah Stecker, ADA Coordinator, at sstecker@chsofnj.org or (609) 695-6274 x 180.

*We are currently seeking bilingual professionals professional speakers, people of color, and persons with disabilities who have interest in joining the ADA Committee.

Accessibility Services & Civil Rights Statement

The Children’s Home Society of New Jersey (CHSofNJ) is committed to the standards of the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights in the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, equal employment opportunity (EEO), and diversity policies and programs. CHSofNJ Civil Rights Policy prohibits discrimination in employment and in all of its programs and activities based on race, creed, color, religion, marital status, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, veteran status, age, physical handicap, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law. It is our policy at CHSofNJ to simply understand that there will be zero tolerance for any form of discrimination. This standard is applicable to every CHSofNJ employee.

CHSofNJ employees, including managers and supervisors, share in the responsibility to promote equal access to the workplace and to federally assisted programs and services. Any employee who believes his or her rights have been violated under this or any anti-discrimination policy must contact the Director of Human Resources within 5 calendar days to report the alleged discriminatory event or action. It is expected that employees may exercise their rights to the EEO process without fear of reprisal (see Whistle Blower policy).

Accountability is critical and therefore all CHSofNJ employees will be held accountable for doing their part to ensure all its employees, applicants, and consumers are provided equal access to the opportunities, programs, and services available through CHSofNJ. Accordingly, all managers and supervisors should model appropriate behavior.

CHSofNJ has an obligation to ensure that all protected classes, including consumers representing a specific age, gender, sexual orientation, physical handicap or disability have equal access to program information and technical assistance necessary to participate in all CHSofNJ programs and activities.

Questions may be directed to Sarah Stecker at sstecker@chsofnj.org or (609) 695-6274 x 180.
