CHSofNJ’s Childhood Separation and Loss provides in-home clinical intervention for children living in Mercer County who have experienced a traumatic event such as separation from a parent or caregiver due to being placed in out of home care, illness, death, violence or other loss. It helps children understand reasons for the separation and skills to cope with it, reduces symptoms related to adverse experiences, and provides children with a more optimistic outlook for their future. There are two goals that drive the program:

  • Provide intensive, short-term, trauma focused counseling to school-age children in DCF foster care to resolve grief, separation and loss issues
  • Improve/maintain stability in placement
