TEDI was a huge part of my life growing up. I was a part of the TEDI program from Fall 2008 through Spring 2014. I first joined because of my love for dance, but I stayed around because it was a wonderful opportunity that allowed me to grow in a creative and supportive environment. Over the years, TEDI became more than just a dance program to me – it was a second home where I learned discipline, confidence, and the value of teamwork.

One of the most powerful memories I have from my time in TEDI is the annual end-of-year performances. Stepping onto the stage, surrounded by lights and music, and performing for an audience filled with people was an unforgettable experience. There was a unique rush of adrenaline and excitement, but more than that, a deep sense of pride and accomplishment. Those moments reminded me of how much I had grown – not just as a dancer, but as a person. It was a celebration of hard work, creativity, and community. Those performances remain some of the most meaningful experiences of my youth.

If someone was on the fence about joining TEDI, I would tell them “Try it, you won’t regret it.” The people you befriend and the memories you make are so worth the experience. I built strong friendships with both my peers and dance teachers, people I could lean on no matter what. We worked hard on our end of year dances, but we also had a lot of fun together.

TEDI has instilled in me the importance of treating others with kindness and respect. Through my experiences, I’ve learned to value meaningful relationships and the impact of compassion in both personal and professional settings. TEDI also taught me the value of quality time and to make the most of every moment, which has helped me stay grounded and intentional. Most importantly, TEDI reinforced the belief that with dedication and perseverance, I can work hard to achieve my dreams. These lessons continue to guide my goals, shape my values, and influence the way I see the world.

My name is Yarilitza Ayala. I’ve had the privilege of working as an Accountant at the Children’s Home Society of New Jersey for nearly two years. Alongside my full-time job, I’m also a part-time student at Caldwell University, where I’m pursuing an MBA. After a lot of hard work and dedication, I’m proud to say that I’ll be graduating by the end of this year. Balancing work and school hasn’t been easy, but it’s been an incredibly rewarding journey.

When I first applied for my role at CHS, I never would have imagined how personal and meaningful my work would become. TEDI, a program I was once a part of, was under my management. The moment I learned that I’d be taking on this contract felt so surreal; it was like a full-circle moment. I had gone from a dancer in TEDI to supporting it behind the scenes. Being able to contribute to a program that had such a positive impact on my own childhood is incredibly special. It’s an honor to be part of an organization that is committed to making a difference in the lives of children and families.
